Box Office Assistant — True/False Film Fest

Position Overview: We are looking for a film enthusiast to join our box office team! The part time Box Office Assistant will assist the True/False Box Office Manager with ticketing operations and pass distribution for the True/False Film Fest. This position requires high organizational skills, a strong customer service presence, and the ability to manage time-sensitive box office setups and daily reporting.

Contractual Note: Due to the intensive nature of the festival, outside internships or secondary roles are strictly prohibited during reservation week (Feb. 12-22) and during the main festival dates (March 4-7) to ensure full operational presence.

Duties Include:
  • Learn the festival’s ticketing system and policies to successfully trouble-shoot problems on behalf of individual pass and ticket buyers. 
  • Answer the box office email inbox and manage the box office phones remotely, particularly during reservation week.
  • Work with the Elevent ticketing system to connect passholders with sales and reservations.
  • Help with box office before and after the festival. 
  • Help passholders and customers during the festival in Columbia, MO by handing out passes, answering questions, and selling tickets/passes. Maintain and update the available ticket tracking document daily. 
  • Help manage financial reporting after each day. 
  • Attend weekly virtual meetings with box office staff
  • Assist with training, scheduling, reporting and supervising festival box office volunteers
  • Assist with overseeing festival pass creation, distribution, and tracking 
  • Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and traits:
  • At least one year working for True/False or another festival;
  • Extremely detail oriented;
  • Strong customer service skills;
  • Comfort & agility in troubleshooting issues via phone, email, or in person;
  • Strong aptitude for web, database, and spreadsheet use – ticketing system experience a plus;
  • Point-of-sale experience;
  • Confidence and discretion in handling and counting cash;
  • Comfort with being on one’s feet for long hours during the festival;
  • Comfort with physical set up of a temporary location: lifting/carrying up to 30lbs;
  • Ability to direct others, lead a team of about 20 volunteers.
Compensation & Culture:
  • This is a part-time, seasonal independent contractor position that has a flat stipend of $2,000.
  • Position Type: Seasonal – November to March
  • Requirements: Must have a computer with reliable internet 
  • Time Commitment: Fluctuating flexible schedule, approximately 5-15 hours per week, with a higher workload in February and March.
