This program’s primary collaborative project, The Show Me Series offers free monthly community screenings at Ragtag Cinema throughout 2024A program of free and monthly screenings followed by community conversations, the Show Me Series is a co-curatorial endeavor between Ragtag Cinema and its 5 Community Partners. Seeking to evolve our film-centric space into one that embraces our communities, this series uses film, as an art form, to prompt rich and poignant discussions The Show Me Series launched at Ragtag Cinema in July 2021.

FEST PROGRAMS

SHOW ME TRUE/FALSE

The Show Me True/False film screening was created as a way to honor our Community Partners, and offer community members who have not joined us in the past or are not able to attend the entirety of the festthe opportunity to experience the Fest and all that it has to offer. As True/False is made possible by the incredible support of our community, and enriched by community partnerships, we are excited to show our deep gratitude through this event.

The 2024 selection, Girls State, takes us back to our home state of Missouri. Every summer, teenage girls from across the state spend a week building a government from the ground up. Coming from different ends of the political and socioeconomic spectrum, they all share a passion for reimagining the future of America. The filmmakers behind Boys State (T/F 20) return to the world of teen politics to capture the 2022 program – the first time in history that Girls State and Boys State take place simultaneously on the same campus. As the days unfold and the Boys program looms on their periphery, rumblings of discontent emerge over the disparities in the treatment of the cohorts, and with rumors of Roe v. Wade being overturned in the real world, the stakes feel higher than ever for these ambitious and dedicated young women. Girls State is an exhilarating portrait of our political landscape and the pivotal issue of gender equality.

In the same spirit as the collaborative year-round Show Me series at Ragtag Cinema, Show Me True/False creates space at the Fest for post-film community conversations that transport audiences beyond content to interrogate form and intention, weaving historical contexts with the present. Following the Saturday, March 2 screening of Girls State, the Fest will hold an extended, in person Q&A at Jesse Auditorium at the University of Missouri with the film’s co-directors.
Tickets to that screening will be available to the public for a reduced $5 in order to increase accessibility to the Fest for those who are not otherwise able to attend.
