When we began considering key art for this year, we envisioned a card not found in the traditional tarot deck: Foresight. To pull this off, we turned to our past, collaborating anew with designer and art director Erik Buckham and illustrator Akiko Stehrenberger, whom we last worked with back in 2015.
Diving deep into divination, we pored over various tools and other visual metaphors, some of which found their way into the piece (check out the border; we really couldn’t let go of that chicken foot!), others did not.
Wanting to emphasize the idea of vision, in more than one sense of the word, we settled on a figure emerging from a human heart. Cast in bronze, this person essentially blinds themselves by covering one eye and closing the other – but only in order to perceive the world in a different, new way. As is often the case, our theme reflects our experience of True/False; we look forward to exploring our assumptions together in a few short weeks!Â
The poster will be available at merch tables throughout the Fest. Can’t wait? It’s available for purchase today at our popup shop located at Makes Scents, 25 S. Ninth St., Columbia, MO.
