Not a figment, after all

I can see clearly now that we’re not insane, this really is a film festival in the making. More than 600 volunteers (?!) at Lela Raney Wood Hall today, a design crew cleverly hatching plans for our venues, a website that finally, finally lays out our film titles. Every year, I figure I’ve had enough of this festival business, and maybe I should take up another line of work. But then damn, Gaige Larsen draws a nifty poster and Boxcar does their tilt-shift commercial and Arable and Nathan Truesdell finish the coolest bumper ever. And Justin Arft makes it all look smooth as silk while presenting arcane box office information. I suspect this kind of altruistic, high-performance creativity probably couldn’t be replicated in the high-rent, high-stress environs on the coasts. There’s something about people coming together, working late hours in a small town in the Midwest to put on a show.
