DocuMemories, the T/F retrospective, continues at Ragtag Cinema on Monday, August 27 with The Invention of Dr. Nakamats (T/F 2010). Kaspar Astrup Schröder’s hilarious film introduces us to Yoshiro Nakamatsu, a relentlessly earnest Japanese inventor responsible for over 4,000 patents. The doctor’s inventions include the floppy disk, a toilet seat lifter, spectacles in the shape of eyes, a pillow that prevents falling asleep while driving, and, perhaps most importantly, the discovery discussed in the clip below.
Not content with his current achievements, the 80 year old Dr. Nakamats diligently pursues a solution to the problem of Death itself.
We feel a special connection to this film because of the art work created by former T/F Submissions Director and 9th Street Video stalwart David Friesen. David designed both the film’s poster
and the widely popular Dr. Nakamats mask.
Director Kaspar Astrup Schröder will be joining us all the way from Denmark for a Skype chat after the film. We hope to see you there.
