This people-organizing whiz helps our Manager of Venue Operations (MOVO) keep our film & music venues running with creative solutions to logistical problems. You open and close the doors to the theaters and manage everything that happens in between (and beforehand). Must absolutely love logistical planning, hypothesizing and/or solving worst-case scenarios, attendee traffic flow solutions, and leading a small army of venue managers and operations staff. This position is a challenging mix of venue relations, theater operations, volunteer coordination, and general festival logistics.
Assistant Manager of Venue Operations – True/False Film Fest
Duties Include:
- Assist with Venue Captain, Assistant Venue Captain, Stage Manager, Queen, and general theater operations volunteer training sessions;Â
- Help supervise Venue Captains, Assistant Venue Captains, Stage Managers, and Queens leading up to and during the Fest;
- Work with Special Operations to meet last-minute volunteer needs when volunteers do not show up for shifts during the Fest;
- Assist MOVO and Volunteer Coordinators in updating and publishing the volunteer manual and other volunteer training materials;
- Assist MOVO in working with the Events Team to create a workable plan for integrating Theater Operations/Events where needed during the festival;
- Serve as communication hub for Theater Operations and Events (as related to implementation at venues) during the festival; ensure that events integrate seamlessly with all theater operations during the Fest;
- Work with MOVO, Operations Director, Production Manager, and Technical Director to ensure all theaters are ready to open for screenings;
- Work with MOVO and Box Office Manager to maintain admission procedures for films and events;
- Work with MOVO and Operations Director to develop venue-specific manuals for each venue, complete with diagrams and written documentation of volunteer duties, placement, and set-up / break-down procedures;
- Assemble and inventory venue supply boxes for the week of the festival;
- Assemble wrap notes from each Venue Captain and Assistant Venue Captain;
- Other logistical and operational tasks as assigned.
Compensation & Culture: Commitment is approximately 120 hours between November 1 and March 3, with a stipend of $1500. The ideal candidate is local to Columbia or within a reasonable driving distance. Must be able to participate in several logistical/planning meetings (in person or via Zoom) during the months leading up to the fest, and be willing to travel to Columbia for two staff/volunteer training sessions in February. Must be fully available the week of the fest, February 24 – March 3
