True/False ticket FAQ
-
Where does this fest take place?
NEW IN 2008: Regular True/False films will screen at the Blue Note, Ragtag, the Forrest Theater (at the Tiger Hotel), Windsor Auditorium, the Macklanburg Playhouse, and The Den (a Windsor annex). The Reel Gone Roundup will once again take place at the Bull Pen Cinema, and Jesse Hall will be our venue for the Closing Night Film and festivities. For complete venue information, including seating capacity, please see our venues page.
-
How much for a ticket to one film?
All regular films and events are $8, with tickets available for purchase in advance at our box office. 10 minutes prior to showtime, any remaining tickets will be sold at the door of the venue (See #6 below). All panel discussions are free.
-
When can I buy advance tickets?
Simple, Lux, and Silver Circle Passes will be available starting Monday, January 7th via our website. (See #7-11 for specific pass details.) Passholders will be able to reserve tickets prior to the start of the festival. Reservations will begin as follows:
- Silver Circle: Beginning at 12:01 am on Sunday, Feb. 10.
- Lux: Beginning at 9:01 am Monday, Feb. 11.
- Simple: Beginning at 9:01 pm Monday, Feb. 11.
All pass sales will end at 5 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Pre-fest ticket reservations for passholders will end at 5 pm on Friday, Feb. 22.

All passes and reserved tickets must be picked up at our Box Office at the Cherry St. Artisan. They will be available for pick-up starting Wednesday, Feb. 27. Box Office sales (passes and individual tickets) begin at noon on Thursday, February 28.
-
Where is the True/False Box Office?
The T/F Box Office is located at the Cherry St. Artisan, at the corner of 9th and Cherry St.
-
When is the True/False Box Office open?
Box Office hours are noon to 10pm on Thursday, Feb. 28; 9am to 10pm on Friday, Feb. 29 and Saturday, March 1; and 10am to 5pm on Sunday, March 2.
For passholders who have purchased their passes online or at the Missouri Theatre, there will be a special pass and ticket pick-up time on Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 5pm to 8pm and Thursday, Feb. 28 from 9am to noon. There will be NO SALES or ticket exchanges during this time.
-
Can I buy tickets at the door for a film?
Yes, but only 10 minutes before start time. By waiting to buy tickets at the door of the venue, you run the risk of the film being NRT (No Reserve Tickets remaining). The best way to ensure that you have a ticket for a film that you want to see is to buy your ticket(s) from our Box Office at Cherry St. Artisan. Tickets for all films and events will be sold there up until 15 minutes before start time. Following that, all remaining tickets will go on sale at the door of the venue 10 minutes prior to the film's start time.

What about passes?
A Simple Pass is $55 and grants one person admission to any festival films Friday (Feb. 29) through Sunday (March 2). Your Simple Pass will also get your into the Friday night Lovers Leap Party for $10. Field trips and concerts — as well as films on Thursday (Feb. 28) — are not included, and tickets for these events must be purchased separately at the T/F Box Office beginning at noon, Thursday Feb. 28.
A Lux Pass is $125 and grants one person admission to any films (Thursday, Feb. 28 - Sunday, March 2), concerts, field trips (but a reservation is still needed), and parties (except the Filmmaker Fete). To avoid "Q" time, we highly recommend reserving tickets online for films and events.
A Silver Circle Pass is $250. This is our deluxe pass and the best way for an individual to support the future of True/False. Being part of the Silver Circle grants all the privileges of a Lux pass plus admission to the Filmmaker Fete (first 50 passes) and one of our coveted festival goodie bags. Silver Circle passholders also have preferred access to films at the Blue Note, Windsor, Macklanburg theaters, and Jesse Hall.
"The Fiver" is a single-day (Saturday or Sunday) ticket discount that gives you any 5 tickets for $30. (see #11 below).
Note for high school & college students: High school and college students can get tickets to any film for $6 with their Student ID.

I bought a pass. How do I get it?
All passes (as well as reserved tickets) must be picked up at the T/F Box Office. (See #4 above for Box Office schedule.)
-
True or False? If I buy a pass off the website I could still not be able to get tickets for all of the films that I want?
True. However, when you buy a Simple, Lux or Silver Circle pass off of the website, you are able to reserve tickets prior to the start of the festival. From February 10* - 22, ticket reservations can be made online via this site. Ticket reservations will be honored in the order in which they are received. Your reserve tickets will be waiting for you, along with your pass, at T/F's Cherry St. Artisan box office at 9th and Cherry in downtown Columbia.
If there is a film you did not get a ticket for but would like to attend, you can always go to the venue and try your luck with the Q system (see #15). Your pass will get you in, space permitting.
Tickets held for a passholder must be picked up at least 15 minutes before the film's starting time.
*See #3 for reservation schedule by pass type.

OK, I sprung for the Silver Circle pass. How does this "walk-up" privilege work?
If you're in the Silver Circle you can walk up to any screening at the Blue Note, Windsor, and Macklanburg theaters as well as Jesse Hall. As long as you're more than 15 minutes early, you'll get a seat. While we encourage you to reserve tickets online and/or pick them up at the box office, your Silver Circle pass gets you off the hook if you forget. At our smaller venues (the Forrest Theater, Ragtag and The Den), things work a bit differently. Seats at these venues will not be held for Silver Circle passholders. To be guaranteed a seat, you MUST reserve tickets or get them from the box office.
NEW IN 2008: Silver Circle members will be given preferred Q seating at the Forrest, Den and Ragtag venues. So, if you don't have a ticket, just show up at least 10 minutes early and find the Silver Circle waiting area (hint: look for a big silver circle). As long as there are seats available, you'll be let in ahead of the rest of the Q.

What about "The Fiver"?
The Fiver is a great way to check out the fest if you can't spare your whole weekend, or you want to take friends/family to a film. For $30, you can get five tickets (in any combination) for Saturday OR Sunday. This single-day ticket discount is available only at the T/F Box Office at Cherry St. Artisan. The Fiver is not good for any field trips, parties or concerts.
-
How about the opening night film? When can I buy tickets for that?
In 2008 there is no one single opening night film. Tickets to all Friday night films are regular price. If you want to attend the Lovers Leap party that night, you'll need to buy some sort of pass.
-
What about this mysterious Filmmaker Fete?
Saturday night we're throwing a fundraiser reception/dinner at one of our favorite downtown restaurants, Sycamore. Almost all of our visiting filmmakers will be there, and it will offer festival attendees a chance to meet the filmmakers in an intimate setting while feasting on delicious food (prepared by chef Mike Odette) with an open bar. Tickets are $50 per person and will initially be available to the first 50 Silver Circle passholders. Should there be any left (unlikely), we'll sell them at the T/F Box Office. This is the only time-sensitive element of pass purchasing, so if you want a Fete ticket, get your Silver Circle pass early.
-
What does "NRT" mean? Why don't you just say "Sold Out!"?
NRT stands for "No Reserve Tickets" and it means that all the tickets for a film have been purchased or reserved by passholders. When this happens, there are no longer tickets available from the Box Office for a showing. We don't say "SOLD OUT!" because there is still a good chance you can get in at the door. Inevitably, some of the people who reserved tickets don't show up, and we make those seats available for patrons at the door with our ingenious "Q" system. (See #15 below.)
-
What's the "Q" I keep hearing about?
The "Q" is your chance to get in at the door of a movie for which you were unable to reserve/purchase a ticket. Beginning 30 minutes prior to the start of a film, eager movie-goers can get a "Q" number. With your "Q" number in hand, you can wander about or grab a cup of coffee instead of being bound to a line. Then, 10 minutes prior to the start of the film, you can resume your place in the queue (get it?) and the House Manager will release available seats 5 minutes prior to the start of the film. If there are 15 seats left, 1 thru 15 in the "Q" will get in, etc. Other than the Silver Circle, there is no passholder priority in the Q line. Volunteers, ticket buyers, passholders... all are equal in the eyes of the Q.
For the record, there's never been a showing at the festival where nobody got in at the door. So, it's worth the effort if you really want to see a film. And rumor has it that the "Q" is a fun place to be — mingling with fellow festival goers.

Anything else I should be aware of? This fest occurs over Leap Day, after all.
Well, T/F 2008 is unique in a lot of ways. Since we're without our largest venue (Missouri Theatre) this year, we'll be spreading our screenings out. The majority of films will show more than once throughout the fest, and no film will ever only screen at our smallest venues. So, when making your ticket reservations, be mindful of the fact that this year you have options!!! Closing Night will be another unique event this year as it will be a culminating celebration held at Jesse Hall on the MU campus. The festivities will begin with a reception open to all fest-goers, and, after the film, festival musicians will gather in the lobby for the "Buskers Last Stand."

I'm still confused...
Ticketing and box office details are probably the most complex aspect of organizing any film festival (far harder than, say, contacting filmmakers). We've done our best to make this relatively straightforward and understandable, but we know it may still seem a little murky. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email us (tickets@truefalse.org) or call our hotline (573-442-TRUE). We'll get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks!
