A great way to access the festival is to join the team. Below are several ways to contribute to the festival, share your creative talents, and grow your doc appreciation!
1. Do outreach for the True Life Fund film
Each year, we spotlight one film and raise funds to support and honor the real-life subjects who appear in front of the camera. The 2014 True Life Fund Film is Cynthia Hill's Private Violence. Previous films have included Bully and The Interrupters.
Cast and crew from the film come to engage with our community through school-wide assemblies and meetings with local organizations. Columbia students and teachers have raised tens of thousands of dollars for this unique philanthropic project. Together, we demonstrate that documentaries can create profound and tangible change. As part of TLF, we also host the True Life Run.
2. Make your own short doc
Submit films to the GIMME TRUTH Competition
3. Design a t-shirt
Submit T-Shirt designs
4. Design an art installation
Submit Art Installation designs
5. Volunteer for the fest
Apply to be a general volunteer (15+ hours of work) or a Juggernaut (40+ hours of work), and get a pass to the fest!
6. Join your High School Film Club
Keep the conversations about film going long after the fest (and before the next!) by nurturing a film club at your school. Watch docs all year long! Connect with your HS club advisors, listed on our special programs page.
7. Support your filmmaking peers
Each November, Ragtag Cinema hosts a Local Filmmakers Showcase. Submit your projects, or go and see your friends' work on the big screen!
8. Watch docs!
Did you know that on this very website, you can access all of the old True/False films that are available online? We don't have all T/F films ever, but we've got a great collection to get you started as a T/F history buff. Check out 100+ free T/F docs here!
