Raise a glass to T/F 2010

Filed under: Updates — Paul @ 11:27 pm

Only a few hours remain of the festival, and the afterglow is positively radioactive. Columbia, you are such a surprising host — how do you do it? More than 25,500 tickets sold, but numbers can’t really describe the pride we feel about our town and about a team that really knows how to festival. Can we get back together next year, say March 3-6, 2011?

March March at 5:00 pm Tonight

Filed under: Updates — jeremy @ 2:28 pm

True/False’s annual kick off parade, the MARCH MARCH, will depart at 5:00 pm from the big field next to the Macklanburg Playhouse, at 100 Willis Ave, on the north side of Broadway, just east of College Ave.

Despite what the program says, the parade starts at 5:00 pm today, NOT 5:30 pm. Costumed or not, we encourage you to join the parade as it flows from the campus of Stephens College, west down Broadway, hangs a left on 9th, and ends at the Missouri Theatre.

Reasons to be Cheerful, Pt. 3

Filed under: Updates — Paul @ 10:30 pm

Now appearing in the T/F box office window: diorama globes….depicting scenes from T/F films. Uh, I’m speechless. Sabrina Braden, the inspirational leader of Maude Vintage downtown, never ceases to amaze me with her endless creativity and high-powered goodness. But these dioramas are breathtaking. She and Alisha Waller, Gabrielle Parish, Greg Tissi, Erika Adair, Sam Pounders, and Nikki Pyatt and the rest of their merry gang have tirelessly, good-naturedly spent a combined 150 hours transforming the box office at 9th & Cherry (thank you Jim Alabach & the Kroenke Co! thank you Tom C. Hall!), making it into a glowing jewel box. Check it out starting on Wednesday night.

If a film you wanted to see is not on this list, remember there is still a good chance you can get in at the door by using the Q system. Inevitably, some of the people who reserved tickets don’t show up, and we make those seats available for patrons at the door with our ingenious “Q” system.

Donate On-Line to the True Life Fund

Filed under: Updates — jeremy @ 10:46 am

Donations to the True Life Fund are now being accepted on-line here.  Each year, True/False spotlights one film and raises funds to support and honor those who appear in front of the camera. We do this by actively collaborating with filmmakers, whose intimate knowledge of their subjects enables us to pinpoint needs and most effectively target our efforts.

The 2010 True Life Fund film, Enemies of the People, directed by Rob Lemkin and Thet Sambath, documents Sambath’s efforts to interview former members of the Khmer Rogue who participated in the widespread killing of villagers during the tumultous period in Cambodia following the end of the Vietnam war. Monies donated to the True Life Fund will be used to further Sambath’s project, as there is still much to be done to ensure that this tragedy is not forgotten. With the help of community partners and festival-goers, we hope to raise over $10,000.

Donations will also be accepted at each screening of the film during the festival.

Introducing the T/F iphone App

Filed under: Updates — jeremy @ 9:19 am

With the help of a group of enterprising students from the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri, we’ve concocted an iphone app for T/F 2010. The app gives you an up-to-the minute news feed, film descriptions, a complete schedule, and a nifty interactive map of everything going on across the festival.

Search for True/False in the itunes or app store, or download it here:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/true-false-film-festival/id355263410?mt=8

Special thanks to Glenn Rice and www.tyten.com.
