RFT names T/F Best Film Fest

Filed under: 2008, Press, Previous Fests — David @ 12:48 am

Here we go again. The year ends, holidays are celebrated, lists are made. “Best of . . .” & “Worst of . . .” and all the rest. And True/False has again been named Best Film Fest by St. Louis’ The Riverfront Times.

We’re seriously honored. For real. But we also must point out that the venerable St. Louis Film Festival is a great event, albeit with a wholly different mission and form than T/F. So let’s give thanks to the RFT for the high praise and props to all the fests around our fine state that keep the spirit of independent film vital.

Eastward expansion brings Stephens into fold

Filed under: 2008, Previous Fests, Venues — Paul @ 12:26 am

As many of you may already know, big changes are afoot this year with our venues. Stephens College has stepped up in a big way, and has thrown open the doors of its theaters to T/F. So in addition to our downtown venues, we will be projecting films at the beautiful Macklanburg Playhouse, the spacious Windsor Auditorium, and what will be a cozy living-room style space, Charters Auditorium.

What started this expansion craze was that our flagship venue, the 1,200 seat movie palace Missouri Theatre, is being refurbished in time for the summer symphony (and our 2009 season).

But the folks at Stephens have been so friendly it seems like the fest has found a long-term eastside home. Then of course, we are neck-deep in building the brand-new, two-screen theater, Ragtag Cinema out of an old Coca Cola factory on Hitt Street. Let’s all cross our fingers in unison that it will be open in February.

The New World Begins Here

A big thanks to a crackerjack team of designers and programmers for revamping the T/F website in time for 2008. Credit must be given to David Spear for painting the soon-to-be-unveiled poster “The Future Perfect,” then to Mary Nguyen for translating some of the painting’s elements into the cut-out style you see above, for Jonny Pez for his flash wizardry and then to webmaster Glenn Rice for making it all work. Like the festival itself, the site is a work in progress, but we think it’s a good start.
